Nolan News

Big News...I actually got Nolan to take a nap in his crib on Monday. He slept for almost 2 hours! This is huge in our house. While he sleeps great at night, Nolan has never been a napper. He normally takes cat naps throughout the day in his bouncy seat. If you try to move him once he falls asleep, he wakes up and doesn't go back down. I felt like dancing through the streets on Monday to celebrate his afternoon nap. It was so nice to have a hour or two to spend with just Nicholas.

Also, Nolan is finally getting his 1st tooth. One has started to come up on the bottom! My little baby is growing up. I can't believe he will be 8 months on Friday.

Fun Weekend

What a great weekend! After some bad weather Friday afternoon, it has been so beautiful here.

Saturday was our errand day. Nicholas got his hair cut and then we went to Home Depot to get some flowers for the yard. After getting home, Nicholas and Nolan hung out in the pool while Daddy mowed the grass and we spread the pine straw out for the year. I'm so glad we only have to do that once a year!

Nolan loved the water and Nicholas was so excited to have someone in there to splash. It was one of those perfect spring days. We stayed outside all afternoon. It was great!

Sunday, we went to church and then went to the zoo.

Nicholas was so excited to see all the animals up close. He couldn't wait to see the Elephant and the gorillas. He loved the Panda bears.

I hope tomorrow is as wonderful as the rest of the weekend has been! I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day.

International Night

Nicholas had international night at his school last night. Every class was assigned a different region of the world. Nicholas's room was the Caribbean. The sang and danced to "1 love". It was so cute. I thought you all would enjoy the video and pictures. I especially love at the end when Nicholas starts shaking his booty!
This is a picture of Nicholas's class before their performance. The little girl to the left is Tori (his girlfriend according to him). Nicholas definitely prefers blonds. The little boy to the right is Josh. They have been together since the baby room.

This is Nicholas taking his bow.

Big Boy Bath

Well, it finally happened....Nolan outgrew the baby tub. I got out Nicholas's old duck tub today to get ready for tonight's bath. Nolan loved really sitting in the water. Of course, Nicholas wanted to bath in the duck too. I told him if he could fit he was welcome to. Well as you can tell from the pictures, he made himself fit. Nolan loved having him in there with him.

Nolan also had his first jar of stage 3 foods tonight. He ate the whole thing! No wonder he is such a chucky monkey!

We are having a little excitement here tonight. About 10 minutes ago it started hailing dime size hail. Nicholas thought it was cool looking. Luckily that has stopped and now it is just raining again.

I know I wanted rain, but I can do without the hail and tornado warnings.

New York

I spent the weekend in New York City with my sister Jamie visiting Anna, a friend from high school. We had such a good time staying with Anna. It is so neat to see the city with a local. She lives in the cutest apartment in an brownstone about two doors down from Central Park in the Upper West Side. Her street is like a postcard.

Jamie and I got there Friday morning and spent the day walking around in the rain. We went and saw Ground Zero, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street and then went back uptown to go to FAO Schwarz. Anna later took us to a great Italian Place in the East Village and for cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery. The best cupcakes in the world!

Saturday, we went to see the Brooklyn Bridge and then went to Greenwich Village to eat lunch. We ate at a sandwich place called The Gray Dog. It was so good. I recommend going to it if you are in New York. We then walked Time Square and then went shopping in Anna's neighborhood.

It was a wonderful weekend hanging out with the girls. Thanks Anna for having us!

My sweet Boy

I have to tell everyone how I was woken up yesterday. Nicholas came into my room at 9:00 (yes, my wonderful husband lets me sleep to 9 on weekends), he climbed into bed and said Good Morning Mommy, time to get up. He then laid down with me and told me to turn over so he could scratch my back. It was so sweet. He was so excited to give me the card he bought for Mother's Day. He even signed his name (with a little help from Daddy).

Mother's Day was busy but nice. We all went to church, to lunch and then shopping. Jason got my new sunglasses. My first expensive pair. I love them. We then went and got new ceiling fans for the house and some flowers. We had some excitement when we got home and discovered the tree that used to be in front of our house was now lying across our driveway. The wind snapped the trunk. Luckily, it is not a big tree just tall so we were able to move it out of the way. Now we just have to figure out how to get rid of it. The wind here was crazy yesterday. We had gusts of 30 to 40 mph at times according to the news.

Train Ride

For our mother's day adventure this year we went and rode the blue ridge scenic railroad today. It takes you from Blue Ridge to McCaysville, GA/Cooperhill, TN. It is a hour train ride there thru gorgeous scenery. You get to explore McCaysville, GA/Cooperhill, TN for 2 hours and then take another hour train ride home. We all had a great time. Nicholas was so excited to be on a real train. If you live near, I highly recommend.
I hope all the moms out there have a very Happy Mother's Day!

Thanks Mom!

This is a pic of my parents with Nolan. In honor of mothers day, here's a thanks to my mom for all she has done over the years. I figured there was no better way than to say thanks than where everyone could see what a wonderful Mom God blessed me with.

A "Thanks" for my Mom:

-Thanks for having me after already having 2 kids. Now that I have two and see how hard it is, it is amazing to me that you would choose to have 3 especially with Dad being in the Navy and you not being near family.
-Thanks for putting up with morning sickness and the discomforts of 9 months of pregnancy.
-Thanks for all the midnight feedings and diaper changes I'm sure I required.
-Thanks for teaching me my colors and my ABCs and for letting me watch Seasame Street when I'm sure you really wanted to watch something else.
-Thanks for kissing away the pain when I got boo-boos and using cool bandads instead of just the plain ones
-Thanks for scarficing things you wanted so I could have that new toy, new outfit or that dress I just had to have for Homecoming, Prom, etc.
-Thanks for staying up late countless nights sewing so I could have a new dress to wear for x-mas, easter, etc.
-Thanks for showing and teaching me all the important things in life. There are way to many to list, but most importantly thanks for showing me what family means and how important it is to hold on to that.
-Thanks for letting me make mistakes. I'm sure you wanted to step in and fix it, but you realized that some lessons I just needed to learn on my own.
-Thanks for giving me wings and letting my fly even though you knew if would lead to me one day flying away from home.
-Thanks for giving me roots and letting me know that no matter what I'll always have a place to call home.
-Thanks for knowing that even now all grown up sometimes I just need my mommy!

I love you!

Cinco De Mayo

In honor of Cinco De Mayo last night, we cooked fajitas and made margaritas. Nicholas had his first taste (without alcohol of course) and then asked for juice. He didn't like the sour taste. Of course, he wanted his juice in the cool margarita glass!

FYI...Nolan is feeling much better.

Monday, Monday

It's 10:30am and today has already been busy. Nolan and I have already gone to the doctor and pharmacy and now are back home with me trying to work. Nolan was up all last night with an ear infection. At around midnight, I sent Jason upstairs so he could sleep. Nolan finally calmed down around 2. Bless his heart, you could tell he didn't feel good. The doctor said today that he has an ear infection in his right ear. Funny thing is for being so miserable last night, he has been all smiles this morning. The doctor said his ear drum probably burst last night which is why he is feeling better. She said is swells up and causes alot of pain and then after it burst, it heals itself over. It is the body's way of trying to heal itself. Well...I really do need to go get some work done. Hope everyone's Monday is good.

Week in Review

Sorry I haven't posted anything new this past week. It has been busy at work...so here's what we have been up to.

Nolan is 7 months old now. He is really starting to sit up. He loves being able to see the world from a new viewpoint. He is trying to talk. He makes all sorts of sounds, but no words yet. You can tell he thinks Nicholas is the funniest thing in the world. He smiles and laughs at him all the time.

Nicholas is doing good. He loves to sing and make up stories to the pictures in his books.

Jason watched the kids and an additional kid (our friend Julie's little girl) last night so that we (Julie and I) could go out with some friends. We went to a great restaurant in town called Rathbun's. One of the other girls that went, Melissa, is due anyday now with her 2nd child so that was a sort of get together for her to get her out of the house before the baby comes. As payment for babysitting last night, Jason and Paul, Melissa's husband, are playing golf this morning.

I can't believe it is already May. This year is flying by. The weather has been really nice here. I hope it stays this way for a while before it decides to get hot.
